Another great fan of Satyajit Ray is Gerard Depardieu, the iconic french actor. He was the producer of 'branches of the tree', a later Ray film. He came to Calcutta with the french president for attending the award ceremony of the legion of honour to Ray. He was also very keen on Ray writing a script for a film for him to act in and which Ray would direct and he would finance. But, Ray never agreed to that.
